Mashups are great. After exploring all the ways I can use this function at home and for my kids assignments, I started to consider work applications. The use of mashups for storytime, advertising and local studies would modernise and enhance the way in which people receive information and improve their perception of the library. Campbelltown Council currently has a walking tour of the Campbelltown area. If they were to incorporate Google maps, showing historical site/buildings, tourist sites, burial sites or any other place of interest, the tour could be run as a virtual tour for visitors and locals or even as a study tour for students.
As a promotional tool the potential use of mashups is unlimited; posters, bookmarks, badges, handouts etc. Although I was very interested in PamL's comment on copyright infringements when using mashups. I will look into this further to see if it affects any of our planned promotional activities.
Overall I found mashups to be fun and educational. I'm sure we will be using this function regularly in the library.
