Really didn't know much about podcasts - only ever heard of them thru my kids. This week it was interesting to see what all the hoo ha is all about. I found the sites interesting and was particularly interested in the variety of podcasts available on the ABC site. It's amazing the different ways each site/institution uses podcasts.
As for the library, I agree with many of the comments already displayed. The use of podcasts for poetry readings, lectures, author interviews, HSC lectures and radio programs could really broaden the reach of library services. The advantages in home library services seem to be unlimited with access to all of the above and audio books as well as providing local information and updates to what's happening in their local area. Staff training is another area where this services could improve current procedure. As with most new technologies the ideas are unlimited but the reality is often caught up in red tape and IT reluctance - however there's no harm in dreaming.
